Season6: Bhagavat Gita Part12

"Karmanyevaadhikarste maa phaleshu kadachana|

Ma karma phalahetur bhu ma te sango'stvakarmani|| BG2.47"

"It is your duty only to act with the Right intentions, for actions alone do you control to influence outcome. ("Right" here is that which in your honest estimation and that of the collective wisdom of the past (shruti/smriti/itihaasa/Purana) is good for the well being of yourself and others). Outcomes are never in your complete control nor will you ever have a good judgment of which outcomes are beneficial to you in the long run. Therefore do not let your actions be dictated by perceived short term benefits to you nor should you let consequences deter you from doing the right thing"

Season6: Bhagavat Gita Part10

In this class, we learn slokas 42-45. Krishna had already explained previously that one should come to conclusions only based on valid sources of knowledge ie, One's own experience (pratyaksha), Inference (anumana) and Shruti (aagama). Experience unguided by shruti is useless and inference by itself is wild. So when all these come togeather, we reach right conclusions.

In slokas 42-45 Krishna now explains what happens when Shruti is unaided by ecperience. All we get is knowledge without depth (of experience). Krishna asks arjuna (and indirectly us) to rise above this triviality if we seek happiness and balance in life.

  • We are not our bodies or anything that changes -> This is to Externalization as a problem solving strategy
  • Jiva is Eternal -> implies everything around us changes. How do we handle change?
